“The property was built as two small cottages and became part of a beer house in conjunction with the original No 9 in approximately 1860. Purchased by Mr F Harwood (Master Baker) in 1902. Converted to one cottage in 1919 and became a detached property in 1992.
Nash Millennium Chronicle, 2000.
The houses comprising the Bakery still stand at the corner where Stratford and Thornborough Roads intersect. Mr Frederick Selby Harwood, the father of Mr F S Harwood of Mount Pleasant, Nash, was the baker for 40 years, a very popular gentleman in the village, the Baptist Pastor, and a most kindly friend to many people who took their Sunday joints to be roasted and even their Yorkshire Puddings to be cooked in the great “Improved Coal Oven” manufactured by Brettel. This oven was 9 ft long and 6 ft 6 ins wide and used 2 cwt of coal. A baker’s cart brimming with fine loaves was trundled round the village, and over the door of the Bakery was a beautifully lettered sign “F S Harwood, Baker and Corn Factor”.
