Bass Hill Farm, Whaddon Road

This fine Georgian farm dating from around 1800 is an interesting example of a classic Hanoverian type of farm. The house is built of rose-coloured hand-made bricks and the original shuttered windows are a feature of the eastern side. The drive leading from the Nash-Whaddon road turns into a most sheltered farmyard, in spite of the exposed situation on the hill there is a fine timber-framed barn, with “Queen” posts, one beam at each side (as opposed to “King” post – one large central beam). The stables and wagon sheds are likewise arranged to have the utmost protection from the elements, and the farmyard would be perfect for all the animals, poultry etc living together in those days!
